Here in the Real World

I'm in my third full week of being a newly stay-at-hom-mom and I have found that all the things of my "Things I'm Going to Do When I Come Home" list are not getting done! So my title speaks correctly. Here in the real world, or realitiy, cooking, driving to early morning seminary, cleaning the house, doing errands, paying bills, enertaining kids, etc. are taking the place of all the wonderful things I have planned! I have only scrapbooked twice during the last three weeks. I just knew I would be scrapping every day! I can't give up hope. I'm still in the "adjusting" stage and haven't yet created a set daily schedule. For almost 9 years, Huntsville City Schools set my daily schedule for me. It was very easy to follow and I was held accountable. Now I'm on my own! I'm accountable to myself and that's scary! I would love some help from all you stay-at-home moms. How do you make your schedule? How do you discipline yourself to stay on schedule? Do you have set days you do laundry? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Friday was my day to do laundry when everyone lived at home. Now, I do it when the pile behind by bedroom door is high enough! I also watch my garment bag to see if it's getting full. When I was your age, I would do the chores when they needed to be done. Some days, I would have things to do but I wouldn't be in the mood to do it. I think that was a prelude to my depression. I you are inclined to make a list, that helps. I was never a list maker-too much of a free spirit. List makers get more done. Dad is a list maker.

Check out fylady.net Get your 15 minute timer out and see what you can accomplish in that amount of time. I have been trying to implement her strategies bit by bit for a couple of years. I do laundry every day so it doesn't pile up and become overwhelming. I don't mind folding 1 or 2 loads a day--that is very manageable, & doesn't take much time; but I hate having to tackel a huge mountain of laundry!

Hey I know you and I have talked about this and tried our "boxes" but I'm still trying my self. One thing that has stuck with me was doing 2 loads of laundry every day to stay on top. Also since I have 2 days a week that are full with piano lessons I do the lighter house work on those days and plan one of the other 3 days for errands and running around. The other 2 days left I do heavier cleaning for only a few hours and then try to get "me" time in the afternoons. This all looks good on paper but I've still not had a full week to work out like this. But I have the plan in place that I want to use so it's just a matter of going back and trying again.
